Issue 20 4 December 2024
From the Principal's Desk
What a great year it has been at KSS, with so many highlights. Having arrived in April, I've been so impressed with our school and its supportive community. I'll start my highlights with the amazing school concert we enjoyed on Tuesday. I've shared this with the audience and my staff - hands down the best school concert I have been to in my 35 years in Education. This year we also had two wonderful NAIDOC events - one at school and one in the community at Memeorial Park, at which our students performed to great ovations. Acknowledgments to mums Toni and Edith for their work with our First Nations dance team. Another highlight was Book Week, with the renowned author Gregg Driesse entertaining our kids with his hilarious books, comedic talents and music. He'll be back again in 2025 for our NAIDOC event. Our future leaders headed off to Sunshine Coast University for Kids in Action, where they shone brightly, performing a song written by Mrs Ayling to hundreds of people. Our Year 6 Graduation Ceremony was another stand-out event. I'd like to wish our class of 2024 all the very best in high school. Our new school captains and indigenous representatives were also announced at this event and shown in the image below.
There were some engaging and adventurous excursions that took place over the year, many sponsored by our amazing P & C. We can't thank them enough. Our school community food garden was launched in Term 4 and is already producing huge crops of vegetables. If anyone out there would like to help out, please contact our school. A final highlight for our school was the exceptional School Opinion Survey feedback from Parents, Students and Staff, that has our school out-performing Regional and State targets in most areas, which shows that Kingaroy State School really is what the sign says ... the best school in Queensland!
Stay safe over the Christmas holiday period. See you in again in 2025.
Student Council, Recycling and New Garden News
The Student Council representatives have continued to lead the Christmas Food Drive. Thank you very much to all those who have contributed. We have been amazed by how generous our families and staff have been. We will continue to collect until 13 December.
We have earnt $3400 for the school since we started collecting containers from home. Please keep collecting over the holidays. We have spare bags if your student would like a second bag. Thank you very much to all those who have contributed to this over the year. We held our final draw on Tuesday afternoon. The winners chose prizes from the selection kindly donated by families, staff and the community. Congratulations to the end of year winners!
The rains and hot days have really helped the plants grow. We have harvested zucchini, cucumbers, strawberries, rocket, nasturtiums and tomatoes this week. We moved some pumpkins to an area with more space at the far end of the oval. Last week, students started painting tyres and pallets to create an archway into the garden area. Year One students were so excited about harvesting edibles that they wanted to share with their teacher and class.

While visiting Kingaroy Shoppingworld, we invite you to stop by and admire our Christmas tree, which was the result of a collaborative decorating effort of our students. The experience of designing the tree was thoroughly enjoyed by all involved. We appreciate the support and guidance provided by Mrs Watson and Mrs Laherty, which enabled students to express their creativity. Mitch Bailey also deserves acknowledgement for his contributions.
Don’t forget to scan the QR code to vote for your favourite tree.
Instrumental Music
Last week, our instrumental students had the privilege of performing solo and with their band mates in a delightful afternoon concert. It was a great afternoon only marred by the fact that it would be the last time they performed under the talented Miss Moffat. Thank you to the families who showed up to support our talented students.
A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Wonderful Volunteers
At Kingaroy State School, we are incredibly fortunate to have a team of dedicated volunteers who bring their time, energy, and care to our school community. Two of the most important programs they help with are our Breakfast Club and Rotary Readers.
Breakfast Club: Starting the Day with a Smile
Each morning, our Breakfast Club provides a safe and welcoming space for students to enjoy a healthy meal before beginning their school day. This program is only possible with the hard work and dedication of Mrs Fairbairn, our STLaN, and the Breakfast Club volunteers.
Rotary Readers: Nurturing a Love of Reading
Our Rotary Readers program is another initiative run by volunteers. Every week, volunteers spend time reading with students, helping them develop their literacy skills while building a love for reading. The patience, encouragement, and enthusiasm our Rotary Readers bring to each session have a significant impact on our students' progress and confidence.
P & C: Incredible work in organizing and running this year’s fundraising efforts.
You have made a significant impact on our school, providing much-needed resources and opportunities for our students.
Thank you to all the parents, volunteers, and supporters who organised the Fun Run and contributed to this success.
