Issue 19 20 November 2024
From the Principal's Desk
Welcome to our Week 8 edition of the school newsletter.
Over the past fortnight, we have seen even better attendance, which means that your students have more opportunities for learning. EVERY DAY COUNTS isn't just a slogan, it really is true.
One big concern we do have is how poor attendance is on Fridays. Attendance can be as much as 10% lower on Fridays than any other day. If not for anything else, attending daily is good for embedding a good work ethic for when your kids inevitably join the workforce.
If you haven't seen it yet, pop into our Prep area and check out our school garden. It's well and truly underway, with lots of our seedlings really taking off. We always need helpers and materials to take it to the next level.
Wanted items:
- Kitchen sink
- Bamboo sticks or similar
- Car//truck tyres
- House paint
- Twine/string/rope
- Plastic pipe 50mm or bigger
From the Deputy Principal
PBL Focus of the Fortnight - This fortnight students have been learning to ‘step up’ and be responsible leaders as we transition into the next year level. Students have been working on managing changes and challenges with resilience. It has been great seeing students taking on more responsibility and being a role model to those around them.
Remembrance Day - Last Monday our students commemorated Remembrance Day. To highlight the importance of this day, and pay our respects, two of our amazing Year 6 students used the speaker system to deliver an information session, read a poem, read the Ode and lead the students in a minute silence. A huge thank you to Isabelle and Mackenzie delivered a moving and memorable service.
Colour Fun Run - A reminder that the Colour Fun Run is happening next Wednesday from 2pm. If you are available to help on the day, the P&C would love some volunteers between 1pm and 3pm. Please send your student with a white shirt to wear and old shorts. Students who catch a bus should also bring a towel (to sit on while travelling home), a change of shorts and a plastic bag to put their colour run shirt and shorts in so they can get changed before getting on the bus (it is messy)! Thank you for your support of this event. It will be a great afternoon for students to enjoy.
Year 6 Reminders
- If your student is attending Kingaroy State High School next year, please complete and return the enrolment paperwork ASAP. Paper enrolment forms are available from the office.
- Next Monday, 25 November, our Year 6 students will have their full day transition at Kingaroy State High School. To attend, students must be enrolled for next year.
- Year 6 Graduation will be happening at 11am on Monday 2 December.
Class News with 2B
This Term, students have been diving into the world of poetry, discovering the beauty and rhythm of language through creative expression. In math, they are mastering addition and subtraction, building a strong foundation for future problem-solving skills. Year 2 students are also exploring the concept of money, understanding its value and learning essential financial skills. Lastly, they've been investigating the forces of nature, conducting experiments to see how different forces affect movement and change.

Student Council, Recycling and New Garden News
The Student Council representatives have been leading the Christmas Food Drive. They have been making promotional videos and motivating their peers to bring in donations. We have had a great response from our families with a huge amount of donations. We have been emphasising that students only need to donate one item. Some students have even been making Christmas cards to help spread Christmas cheer. Students recently gave the first items collected to Bill Hull Car Centre. We are grateful to Bill Hull and South Burnett CTC for providing this opportunity for our students to practise empathy and kindness. We will continue to collect until 13 December.
We have earnt $3200 for the school since we started collecting containers from home. We will continue to collect until the end of this term and next year. The money has gone directly towards projects that the students have voted for. Thank you very much to all those who have contributed to this.
We had a great visit from Romaine at Ramesa Nursery. She brought a large box of plants and showed the students about the life cycle of plants and the importance of saving seeds. The recent rains and sunshine have been fantastic for the gardens. We already have little cucumbers, strawberries, tomatoes and zucchinis growing. We are very grateful to all those who have donated plants, thank you. Any students who are interested can still meet on a Monday, Tuesday or Thursday first break to help make supports for the plants. We are asking for any old paints, PVC pipes or garden stakes that families may have that we can use.

Design and Technology Fun with Mrs Ayling
So much has been happening this term in our Design and technology lessons.
Preps have been learning about farms and growing healthy food. We have loved having our new school food garden to grow strawberries, tomatoes, and basil. Every week we are amazed at how our plants are growing and eagerly anticipate seeing the fruit that is starting to sprout.
Year 1 have been making sock puppets and rehearsing for a puppet show. We were lucky enough to be gifted an actual puppet theatre from KSHS. It has been a lot of fun for the Year 2s to design and decorate the theatre, ready for the Year 1s to put on their puppet show.
Years 3 & 4 are learning about food and fibre and the old and new technologies that are used to produce and prepare foods. We created a paddock to plate map, cooked popcorn, made our own butter and tasted it on delicious damper that we also made in our classroom.
Year 5 have taken on the task of cleaning up our school and designing a food waste system for our new school garden. The message Year 5 want everyone to know is to PUT YOUR RUBBISH IN THE BIN!
Year 6 have been busy designing and soon constructing their own garden near the CPA. This garden will be a lasting legacy of the Class of 2024. They have designed the garden, artwork and rock features. Stay tuned for the reveal!
There is always something exciting happening in our Technology lessons and I am so grateful to all the students who come each week with their enthusiasm.
MindSET-do initiative
This week, the Year 5 students are participating in the MindSET-do initiative with the University of Sunshine Coast, exploring the applications and potential of drones. During yesterday and today, they will design and program a drone for an environmental community project.
