Issue 17 23 October 2024
From the Principal's Desk
This week we celebrate World Teachers Day on Friday 25 October. It's an opportunity to be thankful for our teachers who are dedicated to educating and caring for your children while they are here at Kingaroy State School. I encourage all parents and carers to take a minute to write a little note or email for your children's teachers acknowledging them for their efforts.
World Teachers' Day
Last term parents and carers had an opportunity to provide feedback via the School Opinion Survey. I am attaching the feedback below. It indicates that those surveyed perceive our school in a very positive way, with responses better than like schools, schools across our region and across the state. The results were better than last year across all survey areas, as shown below.
Class News with 2M
“What an incredible few weeks we’ve had in 2M to start Term 4! Our adventures began with swimming lessons at the pool and an exciting swimming carnival last Thursday. We played fun games, galloped around on our noodle “horses,” moved balls in the water and raced in freestyle competitions. It was lots of fun!
Back in the classroom the excitement continues to soar! In English, we’re diving into the world of poetry, discovering the unique features that make poems come alive. Soon, we’ll be crafting and presenting our very own masterpieces! In Maths, we have been learning to identify and count Australian money. In Science, we’re learning about push and pull forces. We’ll be moving toy cars and experimenting to see how different forces can change their speed and direction.”
Around our School
This Friday, we are wearing red for Daniel. Please bring along a gold coin donation which will be given to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.
Student Council, Recycling and New Garden News
Student Council has been meeting each week for projects around the school. They made and shared a video about the Christmas Food Drive and another surprise for the teachers on Friday. Congratulations to the student council members!
Recycling continues to bring in valuable funds for the school which are then used for projects identified by the students in the student council. Our next grand draw will be in week 5. If you would like another bag to collect recycling, please ask at the office. Please keep supporting the school by bringing in your recycling-every container makes a difference! One bag of recycling could buy a plant for the garden. (see photo of students who helped get the bags ready this morning)
Last week we were lucky to be included in the Aussie Bird Count, a National Citizen Science project. Students from across the school recorded 12 different species over the week. Special thanks to Mrs Cooper for joining us on the bird watching walks.
Aussie Bird Count
Our school Green Team have been meeting 3 times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday) to help prepare the gardens for planting. Mr Bales, our groundsman, and his team of students have done a fantastic job helping with these too. Thank you to all those involved. The irrigation is nearly finished, and we plan to start planting in week 5. Please bring in any vegetable seedlings you have that we could plant and could be ready to eat by mid-December when school breaks up for the holidays. Plants such as cucumber, zucchinis, tomatoes or herbs would be wonderful. We would also love some flowers to attract the insects.
