From the Principal's Desk
Welcome to Term 4. I trust everyone had a great Spring break with you children.
Term 4 has started with higher-than-average attendance, which is great to see. With the flu season behind us and much warmer weather about, we hope to see attendance for Term 4 improve even more to maximise the learning opportunities for your children. The graphic below shows how important being at school is for academic and social development.
Our school garden is progressing well, with our 'Green Team' of staff and students gradually moving soil into the garden beds we've constructed. If anyone out there can spare some time helping in the garden, that'd be fantastic. Just present at the office and we'll show you the ropes.
Shining Stars playgroup kicked of last week with 21 families bring their little ones to begin the orientation for their school years ahead. Learning to share, listening, learning actively, and enjoying the learning spaces both in and out of the classroom are all valuable elements to a great playgroup. Spread the word to friends and families - Shining Stars is awesome!
Prep and other year level enrolments are open. We had a big week of interviews last week and look forward to more as 2024 draws to a close. Having enrolment interviews is crucial for our staff to gather all the information required about your children so that their transition to Kingaroy SS is as smooth as possible.
Uniform
Please ensure your child has correct uniform on each day, including a school hat. Wearing uniform demonstrates respect and pride in our school, plus it looks great!
Class News with 6C
What an amazing start we’ve had to the final term of primary school! Every morning, we’ve been settling into our school days with fun activities that help get our minds ready for learning. In English, we’re diving into the world of advertisements, exploring how to persuade and create our own for Tallebudgera. In maths, we’re tackling new concepts - who knew numbers could also be shapes?!
There’s so much to look forward to this term. Our Summer Carnival is coming up, and of course, graduation and the school concerts are just a few weeks away. We’re getting excited for our high school transition day in November, where we’ll get a taste of what’s to come in Year 7. It has been a pleasure to see 6C grow and shine this year.
Student Council, Recycling and Garden News
The School Student Council has met twice a term this year. Representatives from each class come together to discuss various ideas and ways to improve the school. This week the class representatives met to discuss a Christmas Food Drive (more information to follow).
The whole school recycling, in conjunction with 'Containers For Change', has raised money for the school. We collect containers at break times, students bring containers from home and even classes have started their own collections. Thank you, 3M, for this great idea.
The student council have made a list of areas where they would like this money spent. They first voted for footy posts for the junior and senior ovals which have been purchased. They also voted for a school garden. Last term students were invited to design the layout of the gardens. The winning design was chosen and work on the garden construction started over the holidays. Paul, our groundsman has continued working on them. This term students can join the GREEN TEAM which meets three times a week to continue the work on the gardens.
Students in the Green Team have already added cardboard and sticks to the new garden beds and started to fill them with soil.
The new gardens will be used for learning opportunities and provide a space for student wellbeing. Each class will have their own garden bed to design and plant.
If any families have any hardwood sleepers, old tyres, gardening equipment or clean flowerpots that they could donate for use in the gardens, please contact the school.
