Issue 14 28 August 2024
From the Principal's Desk
Hi families and friends of Kingaroy State School. Spring is here and a little early, too. I am absolutely loving this warmer weather and so it seems are the kids, with attendance a little higher since our temperatures have risen. Remember, every day counts!
Last week we celebrated Book Week and what a hugely successful week it was. It was my favourite week so far at KSS. From PJ night, Book Fair, Book Week Parade and finally the amazing Gregg Dreise presentations, our school community came together wonderfully in support of literacy. Thank you for participating.
Now that Spring has arrived, we have begun work constructing our school community garden, which is located adjacent to the Prep playground. Each Year level will have a large, raised garden bed (2.4 x1.2 m) in which to grow vegetables and flowers. Our Student Council has decided on a Garden Club for lunchtimes to assist in bringing the gardens to life. If you’re a keen gardener and can offer any time at all to help out, please let us know. We have all the tools and gloves for you to make a real difference. Additionally, we need recyclable and reusable resources to supplement the purchased resources so that this new garden can quickly become an asset for many years to come. Items we need include:
- Star pickets
- 40mm or greater poly-pipe (2 metre min lengths)
- Rope and twine
- Netting of any type
- Bamboo of all thicknesses
- Hay/straw bales
- Car and truck tyres – no wire protruding
- Exterior House paint – white or other colours suitable for undercoating. We also welcome donations of exterior colours in RED, BLUE, GREEN and YELLOW in any quantities.
- Old wheelbarrows
- Plants and seeds
Stay positive parents and carers. Serving the needs of a diverse community is always our goal and it can be a real challenge. At Kingaroy State School we take pride in our efforts towards this goal. We have a great school, and we’d love to hear about your positive thoughts just as much as we welcome constructive feedback.
I’m really looking forward to accepting lots of help from our gardeners and volunteers in the coming weeks.
Class News with 4B
This term, 4B have had an exciting time diving into all things Queensland! The students have been busy learning about the Sunshine State, reading, highlighting, and taking notes to uncover facts about tourist attractions, locations, geography, emblems and Indigenous culture. The class is currently working hard on their assessment, which involves designing eye-catching posters on Canva, all about Queensland. We can't wait to see their completed posters.
One of the standout moments for 4B this term was the visit from Fudooka students. Our students were not only fantastic hosts but also took on the challenge of mastering the art of origami, making it a memorable cultural exchange.
Book Week was another highlight, with 4B dressing up as their favourite characters. From crayons to princesses to superheroes, the classroom was alive with colour, creativity, and imagination!
Next on the horizon is a much-anticipated excursion to Australia Zoo, and 4B couldn't be more excited. Term 3 has certainly been a busy one, but it's also been packed with fun and unforgettable moments.
