From the Principal's Desk
Welcome to our latest newsletter. As you can see on or calendar, lots of events and activities are scheduled again, gibing our kids plenty of opportunities to engage in learning at Kingaroy State School. This week is Science Week, and our students have been involved in a range of activities, including science enrichment lessons. On Friday we have Jamie Shirlaw, Digital Innovations, Mathematics and Science teacher from Kingaroy SHS visiting us for parade. Everyone is welcome to come along.
Next week we celebrate Book Week, with this year’s theme being Reading is Magic. In addition to a week full of fun activities, we have our Book Fair in the library. In extra exciting news, we have Australia’s most renown Indigenous author, Gregg Dreise booked to come in on Friday 23rd to share his amazing stories. https://www.greggdreise.com.au/
Gregg will entertain Prep-Year 2s between 10:00-11:00 and Years 3-6 between 12:30-1:30 in our hall and families are more than welcome to come along.
As most will know, the way we manage student behaviour is underpinned by Positive Behaviour Learning. Our staff are well-trained in this and are currently refocussing our attention to PBL in the classroom. PBL is for everyone, not something that is ‘done’ by teachers. It means students being prepared for learning, which includes coming to school with a good attitude and a preparedness to behave appropriately, actively engage in the learning opportunities and showing respect for school staff. Thankfully, most students do this, and we will work with families of students who struggle to improve so that they can become learners and good citizens. Parent support is paramount in this, and we thank you all in advance for supporting our efforts. Kingaroy is a great school – let’s work together to keep it that way.
From the Deputy Principal
It’s hard to believe it is Week 6! There has been so much happening around the school. Our PBL focus this fortnight has been Sportsmanship and we have really been celebrating the Olympic Spirit. In true Olympic Spirit, each day each class has a medal that is awarded to a class member who has been demonstrating sportsmanship. Students have been nominating their peers and explaining what was observed or said by this peer to show sportsmanship.
Under 8’s Day – Under 8’s day is about acknowledging the importance of learning in the early years of a child's life and encourages learning through play. Students and our local community participated in a range of engaging activities, from rocket making to shaving cream painting, organised by the Prep – 2 teachers. We were also lucky enough to have Mr Holt read the children his book. A huge thank you to Leanne Broadbent for organising and leading this day.
Fudooka Visit – The students had an amazing time with our visiting students from Japan. It was lovely to watch the students interact and see how quickly they built connections and formed friendships. This is such an awesome experience, and we are so grateful for the wonderful Miss Ireland who made this visit a reality.
Science Week – Science Week is finally here, and this year's theme is "Species Survival – More than just sustainability". There is lots happening around the school to encourage a love of Science with Mrs Ayling running special lessons and a scavenger hunt all week! Yesterday, we kicked off Science Week with students participating in a Science Enrichment session based around plants and the transpiration of water. On Friday, Jamie Shirlaw from Kingaroy High School will join us on parade to show the students why Science is so, so cool!
P&C Meeting - Our second P&C meeting of the term is happening tonight at 6pm in the library. We have a great P&C team who actively support our school. We are always looking for new people to be involved with this committee, all parents and community members are invited to come along and be part of our P&C.
