Issue 7 - 9 May 2024
From the Principal's Desk
Hi Families,
I can't believe we're approaching Week 5 already! Time flies when you're having fun they say, and I have certainly enjoyed the first month or so here at Kingaroy State School.
I have been really impressed with the excellent team working at our school across all roles - cleaners, TAs, teachers, office and ancillary staff. Together we will continue to work towards providing a great education in a beautiful setting for your children.
I'd like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the wonderful work of our P and C last weekend at the Kingaroy Show, where they ran one of the food stalls, making over $3000.
In other news, our Kingaroy State School Concert Band competed at Kingaroy Eisteddfod recently.
Miss Bianca Moffat, their teacher, reports that they played beautifully and with amazing confidence. We are so proud of our band, they have done a great job and placed 3rd in the Primary Band Section! It was tough competition this year and they held their own quite well.
Recycling News
Congratulations to all students who have brought in their recycling. We have raised over $500 for the school. Let's try and raise $1000 by the end of the term. Remember we are having a grand raffle for all those who have brought in recycling, on a special parade during week 5 where there will be gift cards and lots of prizes. Please remember to only bring in bottles, cans and poppers with the 10c recycling logo on them. Other items such as cardboard should go into the yellow wheelie bin at home. Please bring your full bags in on Wednesdays as this is our recycling day. We have had some full bags returned with no names. If your student is missing their recycling bag, please can they ask their teacher for a replacement. We look forward to seeing even more bags next week. Special thanks to Charlotte who helped sort the bags on Wednesday morning.
Premier's Reading Challenge
The Premier's Reading Challenge is not a competition but a way to encourage students to develop a love of reading for life. Through the challenge children and students are given an opportunity to develop their appreciation of the English language and additional languages, and are encouraged to explore and enjoy a wide range of literary texts.
For a student to successfully complete the Premier's Reading Challenge they are required to read or experience the number of books indicated below:
- Prep to Year 2—read or experience 20 books.
- Years 3 to 4—read 20 books.
- Years 5 to 9—read 15 books.
Experiencing a book includes classroom or at home activities such as shared reading, listening and reading along with a book, or being read to.
The requirement for Year 5 through to Year 9 students to read 15 books rather than 20 books acknowledges that older students are likely to select longer, more complex books that may take them longer to read.
Students are encouraged to select a range of fiction and non-fiction books suited to their reading ability.
Children and students who complete the challenge have their efforts recognised through the receipt of a Certificate of Achievement.
