Issue 4 13 March 2024
From the Principal's Desk
It is hard to believe it is Week 8. There is lots happening around the school making for a really full calendar as the end of Term 1 quickly approaches! We are really excited to be having an Open Afternoon in Week 10. This is an opportunity for our school to invite parents and local community members to visit classrooms and showcase the wonderful things our students are doing. Please see the flyer below for more information. We look forward to seeing lots of parents, community members and prospective parents there.
Partnerships Committee Meet and Greet
The Partnerships Committee will be holding a Meet and Greet on Monday 18 March at 3.30pm. We would like to invite all of our Indigenous families to attend our Meet and Greet for 2024. This is an opportunity to meet and welcome both new and old families to our school community. A BBQ (sausage sizzle) afternoon tea will be provided at the Senior Stage, and there is plenty of room for the students to run around and play.
Parent/Teacher Interviews
This week we are conducting Parent/Teacher Interviews to discuss your student’s progress. Thank you for working with us to make sure your student succeeds and gets the most out of their time at Kingaroy State School.
P&C Annual General Meeting
Our P&C AGM will take place on Wednesday 20 March from 6pm in the Resource Centre, all parents, caregivers, staff and community members are welcome to attend. At our AGM all executive positions become vacant. We would love anyone who has the time to commit to helping with events and fundraising, is able to attend our meetings and has a general interest in learning all about our P&C, to come along. If you want to give back to the school, and make a difference in the lives of our students, I would strongly encourage you to come and join our P&C.
Focus of the Fortnight – First Time, Every Time
Our focus this fortnight has been on First Time, Every Time. Students have been doing an awesome job of following instructions immediately and know the expectation is one instruction once. Teachers are rewarding students with $5 Kingaroy Cash for following the expectation in the classroom and playground.
There are also lots of WOWs available for students to sign up for this term. Please discuss these with your students and encourage them to take their well-earned Kingaroy Cash to the office and purchase a WOW.
School Priority – Wellbeing - The Resilience Project
As many of you are aware, the Wellbeing of students, parents, staff and community is a key focus for Kingaroy State School. The Resilience Project is committed to teaching positive mental health strategies to prevent mental ill-health and build young people’s capacity to deal with adversity.
Something to try at home - Gratitude - Working on gratitude helps us to be thankful and appreciate what we have in our lives, rather than focusing on what we don’t have or what we want. When we practise being grateful, we start to scan the world to look for positives – this only takes 21 days! Practising gratitude every day increases our levels of energy, and helps us to feel happier and more focused, determined and optimistic. It even helps us have better sleep, lowers levels of anxiety and depression and we are less likely to get sick. So many benefits – let’s all try to be grateful for the things and people in our lives every day!
Whole Family Activity: Gratitude Scavenger Hunt
- As a family create a scavenger hunt list of things that make you happy or you are grateful for, you can make your own list or use the examples below:
- Something that makes you happy
- Something you love to smell
- Something you enjoy looking at
- Something that is your favourite colour
- Something you like in nature
- Something that is useful for you
- Each member of the family uses the list and has to find as many things as they can.
- You can hunt for things inside or outside, or both. You can hunt for real things, or you can also do this using magazines or pictures from the internet.
- After a set amount of time hunting, come back together, have a look at what each person collected and let them explain why they are grateful for each item.
Family Habit Builder: Every night at dinner, have each person talk about their favourite thing about that day.

Silo Challenge
Ms Turner, who teaches 3T, has a very talented dad. Mr Turner
has designed and created our new Silo for our whole class Silo
Challenge. It is made from ply wood and will hang in the display
window at the front office. It will make it very easy to see how our
classes are tracking for our whole class Silo rewards.
Thank you Mr Turner!
