From the Principal's desk
A Message from our new Principal
My name is Rick and I'm really looking forward to working with the whole Kingaroy State School community. I am passionate about creating positive school environments for everyone to enjoy - children, staff and families. My wife, Trish, and our dogs Lola and Archie, will be travelling down from Thursday Island in the first week of the school holidays. We have spent the last few years up here in the beautiful Torres Strait.
I'm excited to be leading Kingaroy State School and reaching our true potential with you all. Trish and I are also looking forward to being closer to our families, some of whom live in Gympie and Bundaberg. I have two adult children and one grandson, who is 2 and a half.
Outside of school, Trish and I love gardening, making and creating. We also love an adventure and can't wait to explore the region. If you have any suggestions, let me know!
P & C Meeting
This will be happening tonight at 6pm in the library. We would love to have as many parents come along as possible. Look forward to seeing you all tonight.
Focus of the Fortnight – Play by the rules
This week students have been discussing the importance of playing by the rules. They have discussed how having shared rules can help everyone have more fun. Students and teachers have explored different rules for the games played around the school and discussed how having a set of shared rules can make a big difference.
School Priority – Wellbeing - The Resilience Project
At Kingaroy State School one of our priorities is the wellbeing of our students, staff, families and community. Last year we reached out to Hugh, the founder of The Resilience Project, and were fortunate enough to receive the Coles grant for the program.
The Resilience Project is committed to teaching positive mental health strategies to prevent mental ill-health and build young people’s capacity to deal with adversity.
Teachers and students will engage in weekly lessons and activities around the key principles of Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness (GEM), and Emotional Literacy to build resilience. Please see below one of the GEM chat cards that you might like to use with your students at home.
Check out their website for more information:
And check out TRP@HOME; a place filled with inspiration and activities for the whole family, to help improve your wellbeing and build resilience.
Learning about Flags
Last week we were fortunate enough to have Mr Steven Reynolds, from the Kingaroy RSL come and work with our students around the appropriate handling of flags. The students learnt lots of interesting facts and are now confident in the expectations and protocols around working with flags.
Leadership Parade
This is happening Friday at 10.15am in the Hall. This is an exciting event for our school community and a great chance to celebrate and acknowledge the achievements of our Year 6 students. We would like to extend an invite to all parents, carers and members of the community to attend this special occasion.
Partnerships Committee Meeting
It was exciting to see so many parents at our meeting Monday afternoon. This committee plays a key role in creating partnerships with parents and Kingaroy State High School for our Indigenous students. We are really looking forward to our meet and greet in Week 9 and hope to see as many parents as possible attending this event.
Parent/Teacher Interviews
Week 8 we will be conducting parent/teacher interviews to discuss your student’s progress. It is important for your child’s progress that you attend this meeting to discuss your student’s successes and work with their classroom teacher to develop goals for the remainder of 2024. This year we will again use the online booking system. Please stay tuned for more information over the next week.
Class News P/6C
P/6C have had a great start to the year. We have been busy with our PLD learning in the mornings. Practicing our sounds and days of the week. Our rotations for Arts/Tech/ PE are working wonderfully. We get to work in small groups with our specialist teachers.
We have been doing lots of cooking and eating together. So far this term we have made fried rice, mini pizza’s, gingerbread men and pancakes.
We have continued our bike afternoons on Wednesdays with our helpers from Year 6.
This week we are planting some marigolds and sunflowers and we will see how tall they grow.
Thank you Miss Cooper, Mrs Madden, Chris, Tracey, Kayleen and Kerry.
Around our School
Mrs Broadbent, Mrs D'Arcy and Mrs Bliesner had an early morning start and made their way to Toowoomba for professional development in PLD Promoting Literacy Development. We look forward to seeing how they embed their newly learnt skills into their classrooms.
Congratulations Deegan, Beau and Savannah-Rose who made the South Burnett team for Touch Football.
