From the Principal's Desk
Kingaroy Show:
Congratulations to all our students who submitted work for display at the Kingaroy Show. Our students did an amazing job, with many winning prizes and commendations. A very special thank you to Danielle Carige, Glenis Miller and the other staff who worked hard to support our involvement in this year’s event.
Attendance:
Attendance is a major focus for us this semester at Kingaroy State School. Every Monday afternoon at Parade we present a certificate and award to two classes, the class with the highest overall attendance rate for the previous week, and the class with the most improved attendance rate for the previous week.
Regular school attendance will mean that your child gets a better chance at life. Your child will achieve better when they go to school all day, every school day;
- they learn better
- they make friends
- they are happier
- they have a brighter future
Under Queensland law, you must make sure your child of school age is enrolled and attends school all day, every school day unless they have a reasonable excuse. Illness, competing in a school sporting event or going on a school excursion are reasonable excuses for being absent from school.
Our hard-working teachers spend an enormous amount of time preparing lessons and resources to support your child’s learning. However, this work has limited impact if students are regularly away from school. The following Unexplained Absences procedure will be in place at our school from next week;
- One day Unexplained Absence: Parents will receive a text informing them that their child is away from school and that this absence is unexplained. Parents are asked to reply to this text or call the office to explain why their child is away.
- Three days consecutive unexplained absences: Parents will receive a phone call from the Principal or Admin staff enquiring about their child’s unexplained absences.
- Five days consecutive Unexplained Absences: Parents will receive a warning letter outlining the Department’s processes for managing unexplained absences and parents’ legal obligations.
- Ten days consecutive Unexplained Absences: Parents will receive a letter advising them that legal processes may be imminent to ensure compliance with the relevant Act.
Please don’t hesitate to contact the school if you have any questions about our Unexplained Absences procedure or if you are finding it challenging to send your child to school every day.
From the Deputy Principal
This week’s focus of the fortnight has been "Right Place, Right Time". Students have been doing an exceptional job of doing this in the playground and the classroom. There are also lots of WOWs available for students to sign up for this term. Please discuss these with your students and encourage them to take their well-earned Kingaroy Cash to the office and purchase a WOW. The Dash for Cash was held Tuesday first break and students had a fantastic time racing against their teachers.
School Band – A huge congratulations to Ms Nadine Gray and our Kingaroy State School Senior Band who performed outstandingly at the Kingaroy Eisteddfod on Tuesday morning. The students received First Prize in the Instrumental Ensemble Primary School sections and the Ensemble Champions award. We are so proud of you all and so pleased that your hard work and dedication have been rewarded.
Kingaroy Show - It was exciting to see the outstanding Kingaroy State School display at the Kingaroy Show. Congratulations to all the students who entered work, received prizes and helped create the display. A massive thank you to Mrs Danielle Carige for providing our students with this opportunity and giving up her time to organise, create and then set up the display.
Heritage Museum – 2A and 2B had an awesome time getting out and about and visiting the Heritage Museum. They spent the morning learning lots of interesting facts about Kingaroy.
Day for Dolly – This is happening Friday with staff and students invited to wear blue for Dolly. This is an awareness initiative only and a day for discussion about the impact of bullying and the importance of being kind. No money will be collected on the day.
Health Incursion – A permission slip for the upcoming Mad Food Science Health Incursion has been sent to all families. When filling these out please also indicate if you will be attending the Free Parent Seminar on Wednesday, 24 May at 3.15pm.
