Issue 5 29 March 2023
From the Principal's Desk
End of Term 1
I’d like to congratulate all our students for successfully completing the first term of 2023. There have been lots of exciting new initiatives and programs happening this year. Make sure you follow us on Facebook to keep up with what’s happening across our school. I’d like to say a warm farewell to any families who are leaving Kingaroy at the end of this term, and I also look forward to welcoming a number of new families to our school for the start of Term 2. A friendly reminder that school returns on Monday 17th April.
P&C AGM
Our school’s P&C are holding their AGM this evening at 5.30pm in the library. All parents, carers and interested community members are welcome to attend. I’d like to thank the 2022 Committee for their support to our school.
Drop Offs and Pick Ups
Historically there has been a shortage of parking around our school, especially for the afternoon pick-up time. Whilst all parking rules and regulations are controlled by the council, I would urge parents who are collecting students to be respectful and considerate to other parents. Please be prompt when using the drop-off zone at Alford St. When parking elsewhere around the school, please be considerate to other road-users and mindful of young children walking around vehicles or crossing roads. I have been advised that the QPS will be conducting regular drive-pasts around pick up time to ensure that all drivers are complying with the road rules. Ultimately my priority is the safety and wellbeing of all the children who attend our school.
Farewell Sharon Madden
Mrs Sharon Madden will be leaving our school at the end of this term. I would like to thank her for her diligent service over the past 6 months and wish her every success into the future.
From the Deputy Principal
This fortnight at Kingaroy State School we have been focusing on "Positive Relationships". This includes relationships between teachers and students, teacher aides and students and students with each other. Classes have been focusing on building positive friendships, completing bucket filling activities and discussing the importance of accepting others.
Our lower school students are busy getting prepared for the Easter Bonnet Parade on Thursday. This is an exciting event and the children are looking forward to celebrating on Thursday afternoon.
It has been an amazing term at Kingaroy State School with our children involved in lots of exciting activities from our artist in residence to our swimming and cross-country carnivals. It was wonderful to see the hard work of our students acknowledged at the rewards parade Monday. It is such a privilege to be part of a caring and supporting school community. A massive thank you to parents for everything you do to support Kingaroy State School and our students. Have a safe and relaxing Easter Break.

Health News
KSS Health News
At KSS we have prioritised Health education and it is a specialist subject. Being healthy means taking care of our physical and mental health.
Across all year levels students are learning the foundations of good health so that they can positively influence the health and wellbeing of themselves and their communities.
P-6N students are learning about safe places to play and appropriate activities to do in those places.
Preps have been learning to identify different settings where they can play safely. They will also be learning to identify and describe the different emotions that people experience.
Year 1 and 2’s are learning about the steps to good health and how to make them part of their daily lives.
In Year 3 & 4, students are looking at a range of emotions and factors that influence and strengthen self-identity. They are investigating how emotional responses vary, how to be a good friend and discussing how to interact positively and respectfully with others.
The Year 5 & 6 students are learning about healthy habits and the importance of forming healthy habits in childhood to support their health throughout their lifetime. These healthy habits expand upon the 3 steps to good health that the Year 1 & 2’s learn about.
Healthy habits include:
- Eating a balanced diet
- Staying hydrated – drink lots of water
- Getting between 9 and 11 hours sleep each night
- Being physically active for at least 1 hour a day
- Having good personal hygiene – regular showers, brushing your teeth and washing your hands regularly.
- Trying to limit screen time to 2 hours daily
In the coming weeks, we’ll share more of what we’re learning about these habits.
