Issue 3 1 March 2023
From the Principal's Desk
Swimming:
Our Senior School (Years 3-6) swimming block started this week. Our school supports our families by paying for swimming lessons to ensure every child has the opportunity to learn to swim. Please ensure that your child comes to school with all their required swimming gear. At the end of this two-week block there is always lots of lost property (towels and swimmers) so please check the lost property bin if your child is missing anything.
Deadly Arthur:
Thank you to parent Carmen Peddle for successfully applying for a grant to help bring local Wakka Wakka artist Arthur Conlon to our school. His visit has been a great success and students have enjoyed working with him. Our new school mural at F Block also looks great!
P&C Meeting:
Our next P&C Meeting is this evening, Wednesday 1st March at 5.30pm in the library. All parents and community members are encouraged to attend.
Farewell Miss Grace:
Today is Grace Tewes’ final day working at Kingaroy SS. She has done a great job over the past year and will be missed.
From the Deputy Principal
It is hard to believe it is Week 6! There has been so much happening around the school. Our PBL focus this fortnight has been Positive Play. Students have been discussing appropriate play areas, how to move around buildings and the importance of using kind words to solve problems. One of our specific focuses has been walking in busy areas and around buildings. Ask your student – Why do teachers ask you to walk on hard surfaces? Our aim is for students to understand that walking on concrete areas and around buildings helps to ensure everyone is safe and reduces the risk of injury. Walking in busy areas also shows that we are being considerate and respectful of the other people who are using the area. Whether it is our peers, staff, parents, younger siblings or visitors – we all have a right to feel safe and respected! There are also lots of WOWs available for students to sign up for this term. Please discuss these with your students and encourage them to take their well earned Kingaroy Cash to the office and purchase a WOW.
Artist in Residence – It has been a huge privilege to welcome Arthur Conlon to our school this week. Arthur comes from the Wakka Wakka tribe in Cherbourg and is an accomplished artist and storyteller. All of our students will have the opportunity to work with Arthur over the next fortnight and were captivated by the demonstration he provided on parade Monday. This week, Arthur has been working on a beautiful mural for our school and community to enjoy. Please feel free to pop in and check out his incredible work on the side of F-Block when you are dropping off or collecting your children from school. A huge thank you to Mrs Leanne Broadbent for all her hard work organising this visit.
Cooyar Show – It was so exciting to see the outstanding Kingaroy State School display at the Cooyar Show. Congratulations to all the students who entered work and helped create the display. A massive thank you to Mrs Danielle Carige for providing our students with this opportunity and giving up her time to organise, create and then set up the display.

What a term it has been so far. It is our first journey into learning at a school. We have learnt so much, including: how to have lunch, put up our hands to ask questions, walking in two lines, playing with friends, numbers up to 6, shapes, positional words, phonemes ( s a t p I n m d), sight words, reading skills, growing plants…. And so much more.
Here are some photos of our journey. Enjoy as we continue to learn.
