Class Changes
A number of students changed classroom this week as a result of changes to our class structure. This is due to fluctuations in enrolment numbers across the school. Thank you to all our students and staff for their flexibility in facilitating these changes. All classes have settled well and teaching and learning has continued uninterrupted across all our classrooms.
Term 1 Calendar
Last week all parents were emailed our Term 1 Calendar. This includes all the key events and dates for this term. If you didn’t receive this email, please contact the office staff and they can re-send this to you or print you off a paper copy.
Lunchtime Activities
With the current spell of very hot weather, many of our students are choosing to stay cool during lunch breaks and engage in ‘inside’ activities. Here at Kingaroy SS we are proud that we offer an exciting array of inside activities to support our student wellbeing. A poster advertising all these activities is attached to this newsletter.
From the Deputy Principal
This week’s focus of the fortnight has been "First Time, Every Time". Students have been doing an exceptional job of following adult instructions straight away and using kind words and actions in response to any instructions they are given. The most impressive thing this fortnight has been the speed at which our students SHINE, ask them to show you at home.
Random Acts of Kindness Day – This Friday, 17 February is Random Acts of Kindness Day. This is a great opportunity to talk to your students about the importance of being kind. Below is the 100 Acts of Kindness for Kids resource. So many simple, little things we can do to brighten someone else’s day.
Parking – For the safety of our students and families please only park in designated parking spaces. There have been increasing numbers of reports that vehicles are being parked unsafely, particularly near crossings. Please be aware that the police will be continuing with regular checks of school zones and motorists parked illegally, will be fined.
Class News - 3/4D
What a pleasure it has been to welcome and get to know our new class this year! Now we have also welcomed some new Year 3 students this week to create 3/4D. Mrs D’Arcy and Mrs Dempster have been impressed by their work ethic, values of kindness and respect for each other.
One of the highlights of the term is reading the novel, ‘The Twits’, by Roald Dahl. Mr and Mrs Twit are always playing tricks on each other and students are really enjoying the ingenious ideas they keep coming up with. Students can’t wait to write their own chapter of ‘The Twits’, and to use their imagination to write a short narrative to entertain each other.
“What’s the time?” “How long until… is on?” Are these questions your child is asking far too often? Hopefully with all our time telling practice of both analogue and digital clocks, your child will be able to work it out with just a little help.
Thank-you Mrs Carige for organising a brief, but memorable visit by the Queensland Ballet, who were in town last Thursday. The Year 4’s were treated to an hour of learning and practising some ballet positions, steps and choreography. They realised how physically demanding this artform is as they huffed and puffed and tried their best to be graceful.

PE News
On the 2nd February a number of our students were selected to try out for the South Burnett U12s touch team. It was very wet afternoon however this didn’t dampen their spirits.
Congratulations to Lucas Scott, Jaymychal Smallwood, Koe’Jak Watcho and Amarliee Wortley for making the South Burnett Under 12s touch football teams. These students have been invited to participate in the Wide Bay trials held in Kingaroy next week . Good luck!
Yours in sport
