Issue 1 1 February 2023
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Parents & Carers,
A warm welcome to the new school year to all our students and their families. A special welcome to the families who are new to Kingaroy State School, I know your child will enjoy their time at our school. The year has started very well, with all our classes quickly settling in to their work. Teachers have spent significant time at the start of the year establishing routines and expectations and this has resulted in a calm start to the school year.
Welcome new staff!
Please join me in welcoming four new teachers to our school, Bridget McDonald (Year 1), Tianna Salvati (Prep), Lauren Coutts (Year 2) and Kylie Ayling (Year 6). All four teachers are doing an amazing job getting to know our school.
Class Changes
All State schools are funded based on their enrolment numbers at Day 8 of the school year. Whilst we try and accurately predict what our numbers will be, this is not always accurate especially in a town such as Kingaroy with a highly mobile population. There are likely to be some minor adjustments to our class structure to reflect our school’s enrolment numbers, however I will try and minimise any changes and disruption. Parents whose children change class or teacher will be communicated with over the next coming weeks.
Before School Supervision.
Children who come to school early in the morning are asked to wait in the CPA. Playground supervision starts at 8.30am. Where possible, we ask that families don’t send their children to school prior to 8.30am.
From the Deputy Principal
What an amazing start we have had to the 2023 school year. It has been a busy fortnight at Kingaroy State School with our focus being Leap into Learning. This involves students learning and mastering school routines and expectations.
It has been exciting to see the smiling faces of our Prep students enjoying their first week of school. They have spent time settling in, learning school routines and expectations, exploring their new environment and making lots of new friends. We are looking forward to watching them learn and grow throughout the year.
Break Times - There are lots of exciting things happening at break times to keep our students engaged. Every first break a duty teacher runs a structured game on the oval. It has been fantastic to see so many students, from all year levels, playing fairly and respectfully in games like Capture the Flag, Red Rover and Pop Up Tiggy.
There are also a number of options for students who are looking for quieter, cooler spaces to spend their break times. The library is open for students with staff offering several different activities. Students are also able to borrow during this time. Miss Liz is running Yoga classes Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday first break and Miss Laura's Wellbeing room is open every break. Mrs Carige is also offering a wide range of Arts activities, including Choir and Show Team, providing our students another fantastic lunch time opportunity.
Reflection Room - If your child receives Reflection Room for not upholding one of the Kingaroy State School Values, you will be notified via text message. If you have any questions or require further information, please don't hesitate to contact me.

PE News
This term is busy with lots of representative sports opportunities. These trials are for students who have an understanding and skills in playing a sport and would like to be considered at representative level. It is not a requirement that they play club sport (although this can be helpful).
Students who are born in 2013, 2012 or 2011 will attend school trials during lunch breaks as there are a limited number of spaces available.
Please see Miss Humphreys for further information.

News from the Arts
This year, there will be many opportunities for students to learn and create in The Arts through Music, Media Arts and Drama. In addition, they can participate in following clubs.
As well, we have recently been able to secure a workshop with the Queensland Ballet for the Year 4 cohort in Week 3. There are more fantastic opportunities planned, so watch this space!
