Issue 19 23 November 2022
From the Principal's Desk
Thank you to all our students for their hard work and dedication as they have been completing assessments and units of work over the last few weeks. The end of term is always a very busy time, with students finishing off work as well as a number of important events happening across the school.
Year 6 Graduation
This is happening on Monday 5th December. This is one of the most important events on our school calendar as it is where we celebrate our Year 6 students completing the first phase of their schooling, and wish them well as they transition into High School. I would like to acknowledge the hard work of Mrs Leanne Montgomery and all the Year 6 teachers in co-ordinating this event.
Christmas Concert
Thank you to Mrs Sara Blienser and Mrs Cathie D’Arcy for co-ordinating our annual Christmas Concert, which is happening next Tuesday 6th December from 9am to 11am at the High School’s KPAC building. This event is a fun way to end the school year and welcome the festive season, and I look forward to seeing many of our parents and carers in attendance.
2023 Classes
This Wednesday our students will be involved in a ‘move up a year level’ whole school transition session. They will meet their 2023 teacher and see spend time in their new classroom. Students will bring a letter home with their teacher and classroom allocation. This is a week earlier then we normally distribute this information, however I felt it was important that students get to spend some time with their new teacher in their new classroom.
From the Deputy Principal
It has been an exciting fortnight at Kingaroy State School with lots happening around the school. We have been focusing on being kind, especially with the way we speak to others. We have also had a Kindness Challenge running this fortnight. Staff and students have been on the lookout for acts of kindness. When caught being kind, the student’s name, their class and the act of kindness they have been involved in, have been written on a coloured strip of paper and given to the class teacher. Teachers have been sharing these acts of kindness with their class and then linking the strips of paper to create a chain of kindness. It has been amazing to watch the chains grow over the fortnight and I am so proud of our students and the fact that they realise that the smallest act of kindness can have a huge ripple effect.
Remembrance Day – A massive thank you to Mrs Leanne Broadbent for again organising this year’s Remembrance Day celebration. This year, three of our Year 6 students took the lead and ran the ceremony over our school speaker system. Jordan Hicks, Charlotte Kennedy and Silas Walker are to be congratulated on the exceptional job they did of what can be a very nerve-racking experience, especially for 11 and 12 year olds. We are proud of you and all the students at Kingaroy State School for the way you respectfully remembered all those who fought for the freedom we enjoy today.
Class News - 4BD
Miss Ong
During weeks 2 to 5 we were lucky enough to have the amazing Miss Ong complete a university placement in our classroom. This was a great opportunity for Miss Ong to further her understandings of being a classroom teacher. Miss Ong has spent the last four weeks teaching us chance and data as well as decimals. We have all had the opportunity to read with her daily in reading groups. Miss Ong has helped us refine our spelling each day and she even taught us about fossils in science.
On Tuesday November 1 our class got to celebrate filling our peanut bush with a whole class free dress. We thoroughly enjoyed dressing in our ‘finest’ and imagining our outfits matched those on display at Flemington Race Course.
Poetry
This term in English we are learning about the poetic devices that are used in different forms of poetry. We are now in the process of writing a poem about our families. Our poems will feature several of the features we have learnt about including puns, neologisms and spoonerisms.
Golden Bin
This term we have been tasked with keeping an area of our school clean. We were very excited to be the winners in week 4. At parade we were presented with the “Golden Bin”. We were also lucky enough to enjoy an ice block for our efforts.
Instrumental Music
Congratulations to Ms Gray and our instrumental music students who have worked hard all year to improve their skills. Each week this semester, they have accompanied us all as we sang the National Anthem on parade. On Monday the following students were recognised for completing assessments to achieve Curriculum Levels 1 -3.
