Issue 18 9 November 2022
From the Principal

Parent Requests: Thank you to the parents who came and met with myself or Deputy Principal Bec Hall to request preferences for their children in 2023. Class lists are now in the process of being created for next year. Whilst every effort has been made to meet parental requests this is not always possible.
P&C Working Bee: A warm thank-you to the P&C for organising the recent Working Bee, and the volunteers who attended. Efforts like this to beautify our school grounds are greatly appreciated. The school continues to run its own environmental award for the class that maintains the tidiest area in the school, this is presented weekly on Parade.
P&C Meeting: Our next P&C Meeting is this afternoon at 3.15pm. All parents & carers are welcome.
Junior Swimming block: Thank you to all the parents who supported our Junior Swimming block by ensuring their children had the correct gear for this. Whilst it has been cooler than usual in the mornings, the weather has generally been favourable aside from one very wet day last week. A warm thank you to Aimee Freeman for leading the swimming coaching.
Upcoming Events:
Junior Swimming Block – Monday 31st October till Friday 11th November
Diamond Behaviour Parade – Monday 28th Nov
Year 6 Graduation – Monday 5th Dec

Report Cards go home – Wednesday 7th Dec
From the Deputy Principal

It is hard to believe it is Week 6! There has been so much happening around the school. Our PBL focus this fortnight has been Empathy. Students have been learning what it means to be empathetic and how to show empathy to others.
Friday first break sees our amazing House Captains setting up and running a mega game of Capture the Flag. The students really enjoy the experience and it is fantastic to see so many students playing so happily together. Teamwork and cooperation are key, and this game showcases our students demonstrating these attributes.
Health Nurse Visit - Health Education is an important area of education, and all schools are required to teach this in Years 4, 5 and 6. This includes topics such as safety, nutrition, mental health and wellbeing, and puberty. This week we have been fortunate enough to have Nurse Bell from Queensland Health visit our senior students and discuss age-appropriate health topics with them.

End Of Year 6
by Zoie Daly
With the end of year 6 racing quickly towards us, there are many exciting things to look forward to. Here are some of my thoughts. Coming to the end of our primary schooling is a nerve-racking and emotional time for all the students and teachers. Graduation will be an exciting and extravagant experience congratulating all of us for our hard work.
The concert is something we are looking forward to with our spectacular song. We have been practising long and hard to perfect this, so we hope you enjoy it as much as we do. I’d love to tell you what the song is…shhhh, it’s a secret.
In a few weeks we will get to spend a day at the High School. This transition day is aimed at allowing us to experience some of the activities that High School will have to offer us. We will get to meet some of the teachers and also see what is like to change classes multiple times during the day.
Although we will be sad to leave Primary School….new adventures await.
Year 6 Masterclass
by Ethan McLean (6M)
This week the years 6’s have been visiting Kingaroy State High School for masterclasses.
There were different classes such as Dance, Science (cough cough the best), HPE, Japanese, History, Drama and Music. For the high school visits, I went to science and was taught by Mr. Langton on what atoms are and how they react. Also, we did experiments where we combined acid and magnesium which resulted in a surprising reaction. A highlight was an unexpected reaction that was caused by aluminium being heated and creating a gas that collided with a balloon filled with H₂O which caused it to become explosive on the inside. We then got a candle and put it under the balloon and it exploded with an exhilarating boom as it formed a brief fireball that thrilled the entire class. It was a pleasure to visit the high school and to do these subjects, as I am sure this will absolutely make the transition a lot more exciting.
Ocean Crusaders
By Renee Graham
On Monday, 7th November, we had Caroline from Ocean Crusaders come and talk to us. Ocean Crusaders is an organisation which collects litter from the world’s waterways. She came to inform us about the atrocious litter in the waterways and how much is collected in a year- we’re talking billions of litter pieces. The volunteers can pick up at least 1 tonne a day. That’s a massive amount of litter every year! After the huge clean up the disastrous litter waterways became a sensational place. This was a fascinating presentation and the information shocked us all.
Thank You Tuckshop!
by Jaynie Cullen 6M
The effort of our tuckshop volunteers has been tremendous throughout the year. The school, as a whole, needs to say a big thank-you to the tuckshop helpers for our lunches. This is a day to recognise and thank our tuckshop helpers for the role they play in the school communities all across Queensland. Our school will be celebrating tuckshop day on Friday the 11th of November, please remember to thank our tuckshop volunteers for their wonderful efforts in our school community.
