Issue 17 26 October 2022
From the Principal's Desk
Parent Preferences: Parents and Carers have until the end of next week to book an appointment with myself or Deputy Principal Bec Hall if they would like to discuss class preferences for their child for 2023. A friendly reminder that whilst every effort is made to meet parental requests this is not always possible.
Junior Swimming block: The Junior Swimming block starts next week and runs for 2 weeks. Further information about this is included in this newsletter. Timetables and information will be uploaded onto the school’s Facebook today and also emailed to all parents.
P&C Meeting: The next P&C Meeting is happening on Wednesday 9th November in the library. All parents and carers are welcome.
Morning drop-offs: A number of students are being dropped off to school prior to 8.00am. This can potentially be a safety issue as supervision of students does not start until 8.15am. From this time students are asked to sit down and wait in the CPA until the playgrounds open at 8.30am.
Prep Enrolment 2023: Thank you to the many parents who have already submitted their child’s enrolment form for Prep next year. If you have a child starting Prep in 2023 and you haven’t collected an enrolment booklet, please contact our office at 4160 4333 to arrange this.
From the Deputy Principal
It has been another busy fortnight at Kingaroy State School. We have been focusing on Respect for Property and the Environment. Students have been learning to show respect for the school environment and all property. Challenge your student to see if they can explain why it is important to show respect for the school environment and all property, and how they can show respect for the school environment and all property. You will be amazed with their thoughtful responses.
South Burnett Education District School Speech Competition - This was held on the 20 October in our school library and was an exciting night showcasing some of the South Burnett’s most talented public speakers. The Year 6 students who took part in the event were required to prepare a short persuasive speech, with points being awarded to speakers based on three criteria - content, delivery and language.
Three outstanding speakers from Kingaroy State School took part in the closely contested competition. Jaynie Cullen worked hard to convince the audience that “Rural Rocks”, while Nate Cridge had everyone contemplating what exactly defines ‘Greatness’. Our final speaker of the evening, Tiffany Williamson, convinced the audience girls are brave and courageous, sharing why “Girl’s Rugby Rules’.
The students did an exceptional job in front of a large audience and experienced adjudicators Mrs Sue Johnston and Mrs Tracey Reinbott. A huge congratulations to Nate Cridge who was awarded the overall winner of the evening.
Dance – Classes across our school are working furiously to prepare for Dance presentations in the Arts this semester. The theme for their dances is cultures around the world. Our Year 6 students are well on their way to creating performance masterpieces, with students wearing Yukatas, traditional Japanese gowns to help enhance their performances. Japan is one of many countries students can use for inspiration. Ask your student which country they are representing in their dance.

Class News P/6N
In P/6N we are currently celebrating AAC month, Augmentative and Alternative Communication. The teachers and teacher aides are modelling the use of PODDs in the classroom and modelling language on the iPads when possible.
We have been enjoying time with peers in their classrooms and the playground.
In English we are learning about information texts, particularly reports on animals. We were very lucky to see some animals at the visiting farm earlier in the term.
In Maths we are learning about measurement. Measuring the length and volume of items in the room. In Science we are learning about how things move. In HASS this term we are learning about Australia and belonging to a community.
We are very lucky to spend time with the therapy dogs each week. We are looking forward to swimming next week and really looking forward to our first Macca’s WOW at the end of this week.

Any late arrivals need to be signed in at the office and go to buddy class if their class is already at the pool. Please have sunscreen on your child – particularly if they have allergies to generic school provided sunscreen
If you child has had diarrhoea within the past 48 hours they are not permitted to attend lessons.

Swimmers, Swim shirt (this may be a specialised swim shirt or an old t-shirt, No shirt No swim), Towel, Thongs/sandals - to transition to pool – sneakers/socks required for rest of school day, Swim nappies for those students who are still being toilet trained to avoid any accidents that would require the pool to be shut down for sanitisation. Optional Goggles and Swim cap.
If you are sending your child to school in their swimming gear, please ensure students have their school clothes, including underwear, to change into after swimming.

Any floatation devices – these will be provided as necessary by the school
We kindly request that parents do not attend the pool during your child’s allocated time to spectate. This will allow the children the best opportunity to give their full attention to their lesson.
