Issue 16 12 October 2022
From the Principal's Desk
Welcome to Week 2!
Trish Emslie Retiring: Trish Emslie will be officially retiring from the Department on October 25th, having just completed a brief period of leave. Trish has been an extremely hard-working Head of Inclusion here at Kingaroy State School for many years and her contribution to this school has been immense. She will be greatly missed by staff, students and parents alike. On behalf of the entire Kingaroy State School community I would like to warmly thank Trish for her many years of excellent service and wish her all the best for her retirement. Glenis Miller will continue as Acting Head of Inclusion for the remainder of the year and shortly a recruitment process will begin to fill this role permanently.
Staff Changes – Term 4:
There have been a number of staffing changes for the start of this term. These are;
Bec Hall –fulltime Acting Deputy Principal
Leanne Montgomery – STLA&N
Candice Humphreys – Teacher 6M
Sharron Madden – Teacher Prep/1B (Mrs Bailey is on Maternity Leave)
Natasha Lowth – Teacher DRT
Parent Requests: Parents are invited to contact the office to make an appointment with myself or Deputy Principal Bec Hall to discuss class preferences for their child in 2023. Whilst every effort is made to meet parental preferences this is not always possible.
Year 6 ‘Clean School’ Initiative: As part of enhancing our school expectation - Respect for Property and the Environment, the Year 6 cohort of students thought it would be a great idea to allocate each class an area of the school to keep tidy and free from litter. This is a trial for the term to see how it goes with the hope we can continue in 2023. The space would be in and around classrooms as much as possible. On parade an award (the Golden Bin) would be given to the class with the cleanest and tidiest area.
Upcoming Events:
Summer Sports Carnival – Friday 21st October
Prep Information Day – Saturday 22nd October
Junior Swimming Block – Monday 31st October till Friday 11th November
From the Deputy Principal
It has been a fantastic and extremely busy start to Term 4 with lots happening around the school. Our focus this fortnight has been on the 3 Rs, Respect for Learning, Respect for Self and Others and Respect for Property and the Environment. Teachers have been revisiting these with students so our school expectations are clear.
Farm Visit - On Monday P/6N, P/1B, PS and PB were lucky enough to have a travelling farm visit. The students had a great time cuddling and learning to care for the animals.
Breakfast Club, Homework Club and Skipping Club - Breakfast and Homework Club both return this week. A reminder that these happen Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings with Breakfast Club running out of the Sports Hall Kitchen and Homework Club happening in the Library. Skipping Club is also starting this term. It will be held in the Sports Hall Thursday mornings from 8.15am. Mrs Watson and Miss West will be teaching tricks in the ropes, beginner skippers, pair skipping, big rope skipping and individual skipping, all to music.
Mental Health Week - Lots has been happening around the school this week to celebrate Mental Health Week. We have had bubbles, music and a colouring in competition. Everyone is looking forward to the lower and upper school discos which are happening later in the week.
Finally, I am really excited to have the opportunity to be Deputy Principal at the best school in Queensland. Kingaroy State School is an exceptional school and it is a privilege to be part of such a wonderful community. I look forward to continuing to work with you and your students.
From our Learning Support Teacher
At Kingaroy State School, we encourage students to attend school every day. Each week a trophy is presented to the class with the best attendance for the previous week and the class with the most improved attendance from one week to the next. Along with their trophy students also receive a certificate, stickers and a small treat.
Congratulations to Year P/6N who had the best attendance for week 1 of Term 4. The first ‘Most Improved Attendance Award’, for the term, will be presented next week.
Congratulations to those students who completed the Premier’s Reading Challenge. To receive a certificate from the Premier of Queensland, Annastacia Palaszczuk, Prep to Year 4 students needed to read and record 20 books. Year 5 and 6 students needed to read and record 15 books. The certificates have arrived and will be presented to students in their classrooms, in the coming days.
As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, the school ran a colouring competition. The standard of entries was extremely high. The following students were chosen as the winners. They received a green token which can be cashed in for any WOW during Term 4.
Prep – Alanah
Year 1 – 2 – Jace

4B Class News
As the end of the year approaches, 4B are continuing to learn new things this term. In English, we are learning about poetry and the different features each poem contains. In Maths, we are continuing to look at fractions and decimals as well as chance and data. In HASS, we are understanding the importance of recycling to the local community.
Australia Zoo Trip
Last term, a huge focus of our learning was on Australia. During this unit, we discussed the culture, geography, famous attractions and flora and fauna in Australia. Students had to write their own TEEL paragraphs for each topic, create a poster and then present their poster to the class. The students did an amazing job.
At the end of the term, many of us were fortunate enough to visit Australia Zoo as part of our learning. At the zoo, we saw a variety of Australian animals but also animals from all over the world. We were also able to experience many shows on the day, including the tiger feeding and the famous crocodile show.
