Issue 7 11 May 2022
From the Principals Desk
Welcome to Week 4,
After three short weeks in a row it is great to be able to have five continuous days for teaching and learning to take place. Every day counts at Kingaroy State School and I would encourage all students to be at school every day when they are able to attend.
NAPLAN Online
This week our Year 3 and 5 students are undertaking their NAPLAN tests. This is the first year that Kingaroy State School are undertaking these tests online. One of the benefits of online testing is that the marking process is streamlined and students will hopefully receive their results much more quickly. Thank you to Mr Jason Wyeth and Mrs Glenis Miller for co-ordinating these tests.
Wet/Cold Weather
This week is expected to be cool and wet. Please ensure that your children are dressed appropriately for the weather conditions. Please also endeavour to clearly label any warm clothes. This will ensure that if they are misplaced they are easily returned.
Also, students tend to have increased appetites in the colder weather. Please ensure that your child is packed a lunch appropriate to their age and appetite. We have noticed over the past fortnight a significant increase in the number of students presenting at the office requesting food to eat because their packed lunch was insufficient.
P&C AGM
Our P&C AGM is being held on Wednesday 11th May, at 6pm in the Library. All parents and carers are welcome to attend. If you have ever considered joining the P&C I would strongly encourage you to come along this evening. Being part of the P&C is a great way to engage with the school and support important initiatives.
Inside Lunchtime Activities
As the weather gets cooler, Kingaroy State School offers a number of indoor areas and activities for students to spend time during playtime. Our Library is open every break for games and reading. Our computer lab is open 1st break for students to use the computers and our Wellbeing Room is open 1st and 2nd break. Mrs Laura runs a range of activities in the Wellbeing Room, which is very popular with students.
Changes to pick up routine
Could all parents please be mindful of making last minute changes to your child’s after-school routine, especially minutes before the bell. It can sometimes take office staff a while to track down students, especially if they are in a specialist lesson or out playing sport. It can be very stressful and potentially unsafe for a child if they catch a bus or are waiting at the wrong collection point because a message was left just before the 3pm bell and was unable to be delivered. If you need to change a child’s after-school procedure please call as early as possible, preferably by midday.
From the Deputy Principal
Postive Behaviour For Learning or PBL, is one of our whole school focuses. Each fortnight we have a behaviour focus. When students are seen doing the Focus of the Fortnight either in the classroom or in the playground they are rewarded with Kingaroy Cash. Each fortnight we will place a PBL update in our School Newsletter, so that parents and carers can have as much information as possible about what is happenning with PBL at KSS.

Class News Prep S
This term we are learning to retell our favourite story by illustrating, writing and presenting the story to familiar adults and peers. This fortnight we are reading the Three Little Pigs and writing sentences to match the events in the beginning, the complication and resolution.
In Math, we are learning to make simple patterns and order numerals, words and pictures to 10.
We always make time to include our students interests. At the moment, the students are working on using kind words and actions, through sharing a box of lego. They make amazing vehicles, houses and aircrafts by sharing the resources, using manners and taking turns.

PE News
Last Thursday and Friday a number of our Year 6 boys represented the South Burnett at Wide Bay sports trials in Hervey Bay. Patterson Braithwaite and James Meagher trialled for Rugby League, Koby Laherty and Bryansen Phillips-Peterson trialled for Soccer and Evan Freeman trialled for Netball.
All the boys had a great time at the carnivals. Congratulation to Patterson and Bryansen who were selected in their respective sports and to Evan who was the only boy from any region to attend the Wide Bay trials for netball. Well done!
Well Done !
