Issue 5 30 March 2022
From the Principals Desk
Welcome to Week 10,
I’d like to sincerely thank all students and staff for the resilience they have shown throughout Term 1. This has been an extremely unusual end to the term as a result of the current COVID-19 wave which has impacted significantly on students and staff. We are currently experiencing a significant number of cases of COVID-19 across Kingaroy and the South Burnett, and whilst fortunately the vast majority of cases have been mild, this is having an impact on the operations of our school. I am hopeful that the spread of COVID-19 will begin to slow as we move into Term 2 however we will continue to work hard to ensure staffing levels are sufficient every day.
Student Illness - Thank you to all our families who are keeping their children home when they are unwell. Whilst I appreciate that this can be a challenge for working parents, this is the current QLD Health directive and is the most effective way to minimise the spread of COVID-19 at our school. If your child is feeling ill or exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms please keep them home until their symptoms clear. A friendly reminder that students who test positive for COVID-19, or who have a family member who tests positive, are required to isolate at home for 7 days from their positive test.
Senior Swimming & Cross-Country Carnivals - Congratulations to all the students who participated in our recently completed Senior Swimming and Cross Country Carnivals. Participation levels were up on previous years, and it was also great to be able to have parents back as spectators. Selected students will be invited to represent the school at the upcoming District Swimming and Cross Country Carnivals.
Term 2 - Term 2 start on Tuesday 19th April. A friendly reminder that the first three weeks are all short weeks, with a Public Holiday falling on the Monday of each of these weeks.
Farewell Chris Lee - This will be our Tuckshop Convenor Chris Lee’s final week in her current role. Chris has been the Tuckshop Convenor at Kingaroy State School for a number of years and will be missed by all. On behalf of the entire Kingaroy State School community I would like to thank Chris for her hard work in the Tuckshop and wish her all the best for her future endeavours.

Class News Year 6
Year 6 News
As always, Year 6 has had a busy start to the Year. Becoming the leaders of the school has meant that there have been many responsibilities that we have had to become used to – reading and playing with the preps, putting up the flags and helping out in the library are all activities available to allow us to give back to the school. This term the highlights have been the swimming block, followed by the swimming carnival and the cross country, where many of us had the opportunity to help the younger year levels complete their activities. Next term we are looking forward to attending the GRIP Leadership day which will give us the opportunity to further focus on our responsibilities as leaders of the school. As well as all of this, we have learnt about Federation, natural disasters, cartesian planes, negative numbers and how to measure an angle without a protractor. It has been a busy term.

From P/6N
P/6 N has been very fortunate this term to have had weekly visits from Kate and the therapy doods. The students have had numerous opportunities to interact with and work with the dogs. Benefits of therapy dogs include greater self-esteem of the students and improved interactions with others. This was observed during the term. The students have learnt the skills of how and where to pat a dog and how to act around a dog. They have experienced the importance of listening, following instructions and turn taking. They have also learnt about the enjoyment of bonding with an animal.

From the P & C
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Chris our lovely Tuckshop Convenor for going above and beyond to provide student and staff with yummy things to eat over the past years. Chris is leaving us at the end of this week to move onto a new phase of her working career. She will be missed by the whole school community. The tuckshop will not be running for the first half of Term 2 until a replacement is employed.
Please keep sending your bottle lids to school we are still collecting.
