From the Principal's Desk
Welcome to the final Newsletter for Term 1. This has been a very productive term, after the many challenges we faced last year due to COVID-19. It has been great to see a sense of normalcy has returned to our school, with students working hard in classrooms to complete their end-of-term work. It was great to be able to welcome parent spectators back to our Cross-Country carnival last week and we look forward to engaging more with our families as restrictions continue to ease across Queensland.
Change to Report Card timelines – Semester 1
Following consultation with our P&C and staff, this semester we will be trialling new timelines for our report cards. Previously report cards have gone home in Week 10 of Term 2. We are trialling sending them home early in Term 3. This will allow several weeks longer for teachers to complete units of work, which will hopefully result in improved student achievement. This change will align us to Kingaroy State High School, who also send Semester 1 report cards home early in Term 3.
Farewell Miss Keshia
Keshia Devantier will be leaving our school at the end of this term. On behalf of the entire Kingaroy State School community I would like to thank Keshia for her work at our school, and wish her every success in the future.
School Holidays
On behalf of the staff of Kingaroy State School I would like to wish all our students and their families a safe and relaxing Easter break. School starts again on Monday 19th April. A friendly reminder that there are two public holidays early in Term 2, on Monday 26th April and Monday 3rd May.
From the Deputy Principal's Desk
Welcome to our new School Newsletter format. In this issue I'm experimenting with giving my update via Youtube. This proved quite popular during Covid lockdowns in 2020. Each fortnight I would like to highlight some of the activities or initiatives that the school and the students have been focussing on. I hope that you enjoy the new format.
COVID 19 UPDATE
COVID-19
As we have seen over the past few days, unfortunately the threat of COVID-19 remains very real for us here in Queensland. I urge families to continue to be vigilant about their personal safety, and to follow all QLD Health directives. School remains opens as usual until the end of this week, however if parents and students have attended one of the venues listed on the Queensland Health Website during the times indicated they will need to follow the health advice re isolation.
If students are unwell or develop any COVID-19 symptoms at all, please seek medical advice and get them tested immediately.
We will continue to closely monitor the situation and will provide families with further updates via email, text and our Facebook page should the health information change. Please don’t hesitate to contact the school on 4160-4333 if you require any further information.

Classroom News- 3R
Wow! This has been an exciting and busy term in 3R. We are pleased to say that we enjoyed our swimming block tremendously. This term we also learned how to write an interesting story about two best friends who solve problems together. We made sure our reader was engaged by using a variety of noun groups and a lot of different verbs. We also worked really hard on making sur we used paragraphs in our writing. Our stories were based on well-known characters from a variety of famous movies. The adventures that these characters had were very creative. Some of our stories were so great we think they might, one day, be made into films for everyone to enjoy.
Being a “good friend” was also the focus of our Health unit. We discovered that many things we say are said without words. We have been working really hard to “read” our classmates faces and body language so that we can all work well together. Some of us have found this quite challenging but we know that “effort = results” so we practice this skill whenever there is an opportunity.
We have also worked really hard on improving our understanding of 3-digit numbers, 3D shapes, grids/maps and angles. This week we welcomed a new member to our team. Her name is Miss E and she we will be with us for the rest of this week and the first four weeks of Term 2. Miss E is a Pre-Service Teacher studying her last year at the University of Southern Queensland. She has been busy teaching us all about symmetry and what it means to be symmetrical. We are thoroughly enjoying working with her and are looking forward to learning with her next term.
As we roll into holidays we are quite proud to say that we have been able to earn two “Peanut Rewards” and two whole class rewards as well as an abundance of Kingaroy Cash to spend at the school shop and on lots of WOWs.
We are looking forward to a relaxing break so we can be “powered up” and ready to learn in Term 2.
ANZAC Day School Parade and Town Service
Our School'a ANZAC Day Parade will be held at 10:15am on Friday 23 April in the Sports Hall. On Sunday, 25 April 2021 we are inviting students (all year levels) to march in the Town ANZAC Day Service.
Students will need to assemble outside the RSL in Kingaroy Street in full school uniform with a navy wide brim hat and water bottle at 10.30am. The march will begin at 11.00am.
Parents are required to pick their children up from Memorial Park after they have marched at approximately 11.45am. Students will not be supervised by teachers at the services following the march.
Senior Swimming Carnival
Last Friday the Senior Students had their Swimming Carnival for 2021. There were some very close races and the children were certainly very tired by the end of the day. Great sportsmanship was shown by all students. Hopefully, come the Junior Swimming Carnival later in the year, we will see parents able to return. This would certainly add to the overall atmosphere of the day. Well done to all concerned.
Results- Alford 352 points, Markwell 326 points, Russell 314 points and Haly 237 points
