From the Principals Desk
Summer Sports Carnival: The Summer Sports Carnival was held last Friday. Well done to all students who participated and a warm thankyou to the staff who supervised on the day. I have had lots of positive feedback about the behaviour and sportsmanship shown by our students across all the events.
Semester 2 Report Cards: Teachers are busy working on assessing students with data collected being used in your child’s Semester 2 Report Cards. These will be sent home with students on Wednesday 8th December (Week 10). If your child will not be attending school on this day please contact the office so arrangements can be made for this to be mailed out to you.
Junior Swimming Block: Our Senior students completed their swimming block in Term 1, and this term our junior students (Prep to Year 2) will be undertaking their swimming block. This starts in Week 7 and information will be sent out to parents shortly. Hopefully as the weather heats up it will be a great time of year for these students to undertake their swimming block.
Christmas Concert: Our Christmas Concert is scheduled for Tuesday 7th December (Week 10) at the KPAC building. There are still some COVID-19 restrictions that will impact on how this event is run. Further information about this event will be held shortly. With our usual convenor Mrs Jill Cartmill on leave, this year Mrs Bliesner and Mrs D’Arcy have stepped up and taken on the convening role and I thank them in advance for their work.
Year 6 Graduation & Luncheon: The Year 6 graduation is one of the most important events that we celebrate in Term 4. Every year we hold a graduation ceremony followed by a luncheon for the Year 6 students. This year’s Graduation is scheduled for Monday 6th December. It will be great to celebrate our Year 6 students as they end their time in Primary school and begin the next phase of their education in High School.
Daycare/After-School Care Buses: These will now collect and drop off students at our ECDP building, which is at the rear of the school on Markwell St adjacent to our Prep precinct. This change is purely for safety, as the buses will no longer need to drive into the school grounds to undertake collections. Please contact the office if you have any questions relating to this change.

WELCOME TO OUR CAPS CRUSADE
We all know that prevention is better than a cure, we learnt it at school, so Ocean Crusaders is working on a program to ensure plastic caps don’t end up in the environment. Instead it is recycled to create new products. And you can help by collecting your own plastic caps and getting them to us at school which sees our school receive bricks in return for your caps.
The CAPS CRUSADE operates in SE Queensland only, where 2.5 million beverage containers are returned daily through the containers for change program. 30% of those are plastic bottles and 40% are being returned with their bottle caps on. This needs to change. You need to remove your caps, give them a quick rinse and save them up. When you have a small collection, send them in to school with your child in a re-usable bag or container. Please do not use plastic bags. Plastic bags need to disappear from this world. Take them to our local Red Cycle collection at Woolworths.
Every 10kg of caps provided, cleaned and sorted to Ocean Crusaders, will earn the school a brick to create park benches, bike shelters, garden surrounds or whatever we can create.
Caps need to be only #2 , #4 and #5 on the recycling chart. That is the number inside the chasing arrow triangle. If it doesn’t have a number and it is standard size, assume it is #2 or #4.
#5 is Polypropelene and is used in larger lids generally.
Classes who collect the most caps over a selected period of time will earn class rewards from their teachers and the school.
Challenging times in the world call for action.
Lets start small... and make a big difference!
GARDEN DAY
The P&C would once again like to ask for your help and support. With all of the wet weather around, and plenty of newly planted natives throughout the school, the P&C along with the school would like to utilise this time to mulch the gardens with our large donation of woodchip mulch from Bonniene Timbers.
Handy things to bring on the day would include utes, wheelbarrows, shovels, rakes, pitch forks (not for ogres) and of course a hat, some gardening gloves and sunscreen would be essential. If you bring the kids, pack their bikes or scooters and they will think it is the best thing ever to ride around the school grounds whilst we work.
Chris (our lovely tuckshop vendor) has offered to bake us some morning tea to go along with some delicious bacon, eggs and sausages on the BBQ to thank you for your hard work and precious time donated to a good cause.
There are two dates in mind. Please check which one, and what time, best suits you and your family and call the ladies in the school office to let them know you would like to participate. (Times may vary according to number of helpers).
Day | Time | Time |
Saturday 30th October | 8am – 11.30am | 2pm – 5.30pm |
Saturday 6th November | 8am – 11.30am | 2pm – 5.30pm |
Thank you so much for helping to support our school and create better spaces for our children to learn and grow together. I look forward to seeing you there!
Kind regards,
Karmen Cleveland (President)

Bandanna Day - Friday, 5 November
Student are invited to come in Free Dress on 5 November in support of Bandanna Day. A gold coin would be greatly appreciated.
National Bandanna Day is the major fundraising and awareness campaign for CanTeen Australia. Held on the last Friday in October this powerful campaign has generated over $33 million to support young people affected by cancer.
This year, they aim to raise $1.3 million to support young people living with cancer. Every year, another 23,000 young people (63 a day) have to deal with the challenge of cancer. And we get it. Just when life should be full of possibilities, cancer crashes into a young person’s world and shatters everything. CanTeen is the game changer.
There are many ways that you can show your support and help CanTeen Australia raise funds for young people when cancer crashes into their world.
