End of Term Message
This is the last week of Term 3. I’d like to thank all our students for their hard work over the course of the last 10 weeks. There has been lots of great learning going on in every classroom. I hope that all our students and their families have a safe and enjoyable two-week break. Pease enjoy the time with your friends and family to relax and refresh. Term 4 starts on Tuesday 5th October – Monday the 4th of October is the Queen’s Birthday public holiday here in QLD.
Ball Games Carnival
Last week we held our Ball Games Carnival. It was a great way to end the term and I was very impressed by the effort and sportsmanship displayed by our students. Congratulations to Russell House for being the overall carnival winners.
Year 5 Camp
Our Year 5 students are currently at their annual three-day camp at Barambah Outdoor Education Centre. We have been blessed with excellent weather and I am extremely confident that they will all have a great time. I’d like to thank our camp co-ordinator Mrs Wendy Fairbairn, and the other staff who have given up lots of their personal time to make this opportunity possible, Miss Humphreys, Miss Wilson, Mr Paech and Mrs Kleinhanss.
Parent Requests for 2022
Parents are invited to make an appointment to meet with the Principal if they have any preferences for their child’s class the following year. This may include a preferred teacher or classmates. Parents can do this until the end of Week 2 of Term 4. Whilst parental preferences are not guaranteed, every effort is made to ensure that our classes are as successful as they can be to start the new year.
From the Deputy Principal
Something a bit different this fortnight. I was lucky enough to visit the Year 5 Camp yesterday and participate in the Barambah Challenge. Students work in groups to navigate themselves around a course of their choosing using GPS, Maps and compasses.
From the Guidance Officer
Our staff celebrated R U Ok? Day last Thursday with a lovely morning tea, hosted by the school Wellbeing Committee. This was a wonderful opportunity for our team to check in with colleagues and remember the importance of supporting each other.
We had four Lucky Door Prizes up for grabs, which were won by Ms Atkinson, Ms Wilson, Ms Watson and Ms Turner.
If you or someone you care about are struggling with mental health, you are not alone - please contact Life Line 13 11 14, or reach out to the school for advice or referral.
Kind Regards
Mrs. Jennifer Davies

SCIENCE WEEK ACTIVITIES
On Friday the 20th August, Kingaroy SS students participated in a variety of Science Week Activities based on the theme “Food: Different by Design”. The students thoroughly enjoyed the activities devised by their teachers based around food production and processes. The aim of Science Week is to acknowledge the contributions Science and Technology play in our world. We also celebrate and recognise the contributions of scientists, STEM professionals, innovators, designers and entrepreneurs to the world of science. It also aims to encourage an interest in Science and STEM from our students.
Here are some of the activities that students participated in:
Prep
- Icing – mixing 2 substances together to make a mixture
- Butter making - discovering ways to change milk into other dairy foods
- Making a sandwich – where do our foods come from
1/2D and 1B
- Chocolate coated strawberries - change of state from solid to liquid and back to solid again.
- Popcorn - chemical change in food by a change in state of the moisture in the corn kernel - moisture becomes steam when it is heated and this expands causing the corn kernel to pop and form popcorn.
1T
- Healthy Sandwiches - reviewing ‘sometimes’ foods and ‘often’ foods and our food categories
Year 2
- Ice cream in a bag – changing states from liquid to a solid
- Strawberry smoothies – combining ingredients to make different products
Year 4 and 3/4

- Strawberry jam – discovering ways to turn fruit into other foods
- Butter – discovering ways to change milk into other dairy foods
Year 5/6

A very big thank you to all who participated.

TUCKSHOP HELP URGENTLY NEEDED
The Tuckshop is looking for helpers to maintain its daily operations and support the provision of meals and healthy snacks to the students at the school. Any help would be warmly welcomed by our lovely convener Chris who is more than happy to show you through the ropes and help you to become familiar with the daily routines.
Our Tuckshop is owned by the school community and operated by the P&C. This means that all profits from this service go back to the school. Without the help of families acting as volunteers, this may not be possible.
Helping at the tuckshop is such a fantastic way to meet other parents and make lasting connections. It is an opportunity to interact with the students, create a sense of confidence in learning new things, and a great way to give back to the school. Students love to see a familiar face behind the counter smiling back at them. It can be very rewarding.
Volunteering at the tuckshop can involve as much or as little time available to you. It could mean 1 hour a week in the mornings to help label bags and sort dry food, or half an hour before home time to help with some dishes. Although we would appreciate a regular roster... any help will be welcomed and valued.
The tuckshop currently runs from Wednesday to Friday First and Second Break. Helpers are required on each of these days starting at 9am until 2pm (for a full day) OR 9am - 11.30am and 11.30am - 2pm for a part day.
PLEASE NOTE THAT TEA AND COFFEE IS PROVIDED FOR ALL VOLUNTEERS AND LUNCH IS ALSO PROVIDED WHEN VOLUNTEERING FOR A FULL DAY.
If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to phone the school on 41604333 and select 4. Chris will be happy to take your call and cater to your needs where she can.
Many Thanks,
Karmen (P&C President)
