Homework Centre:
As many of you will know we are now operating a Homework Centre here at Kingaroy SS. This centre started this week. Our Homework Centre will operate out of the Library on Monday, Wednesday & Thursday afternoons. Homework Centre is designed to provide a supportive space for students to complete their Homework or additional school work. Students must be registered to participate, thank you to those parents who have registered their children. Homework Centre runs from 3.05pm until 4.05pm, please ensure that children are collected promptly from the library. A reminder that normal school rules apply for participating students.
Book Week:
We are celebrating Book Week next week. Information has been sent home in the last couple of newsletters. We look forward to celebrating Reading with our students during Book Week.
Year 5 Camp:
Year 5 Camp to Barambah Outdoor Education Centre is happening in Week 10 of this term. Thank you to those parents who have expressed their interest in their child attending by paying their deposit. As part of this camp, we have a Pre-camp visit Day here at school. This is happening on Monday 23rd August and staff from the camp visit our school and lead a day of activities.
Welcome Pre-service teachers:
This week we welcome five pre-service teachers to our school. These teachers are Parnia Yazdani (6M), Kate-Lynn Atkinson (Prep S), Victoria Dunkin (5F), Sarah Kelly (4BD) & Irish Romantico (1/2D). Please welcome them to our school if you come across them working in your child’s class.
Parent Teacher Interviews:
These are happening in Term 3 and I strongly urge all parents to book and interview with their child’s teacher. This is a great way to strengthen links between school and home. If you haven’t returned your interview booking form to your child’s teacher please consider doing so at your earliest convenience.

Supporting your child to be safe online
How to help children deal with online safety issues is a growing concern for many parents. The areas of most worry tend to be:
- Cyberbullying
- Accessing and/or sending explicit content
- Amount of time online
- Online Gaming
- Unwanted contact and grooming
How to approach eSafety with your child/ren can be really daunting, but thankfully there are many resources available. The eSafety Commissioner Parent Hub online has some excellent advice on how to navigate this issue in your family. They also provide free webinars for parents, which are all delivered by an expert education and training team. Some of the upcoming webinars include:
- eSafety's guide to online sexual harassment and image-based abuse: This webinar will help parents and carers to understand online sexual harassment and image-based abuse. It is designed for parents and carers of young people aged 13-18.
- eSafety's parent guide to popular apps: Learn how to help young people safely use popular apps including TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat and YouTube. This webinar is designed for parents and carers of young people aged 8-13. It will cover:
- An explanation of the popular apps used by young people
- Case studies, research, and targeted advice
- Ways you can support the young people in your life to have safe, enjoyable online experiences.
If you would like to register for a webinar, or explore other strategies in this area, please visit https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents
